How to Check Apple Watch Swimming Distance
By SwimNow · Updated

To check whether Apple Watch is missing swim laps, record a short Pool Swim with a known pool length and count every complete length yourself. Compare that count with the saved distance. Repeat the same test after changing one variable; one better result does not prove a fix.
How do you set up a known-distance test?
- Confirm the pool length and whether it is measured in meters or yards.
- Select Pool Swim and enter that measurement before starting.
- Use your usual wearing wrist and a comfortable, secure fit.
- Count ten complete lengths using one stroke and normal turns.
A length means one trip from one end to the other, not a round trip. Ten lengths of a 25-meter pool total 250 meters. Follow Apple’s pool-workout setup instructions.
What does the saved distance tell you?
| Saved result | Next check |
|---|---|
| 250 m | Total distance matches this test. That does not verify every metric. |
| 225 m | One 25 m length is missing; check the recorded length count. |
| 500 m with ten lengths | Check whether the selected pool length was 50 m. |
How do you check whether a change helped?
Write down expected distance, recorded distance, units, stroke, and the change you made. Keep the route and counting method the same. If drills or mixed strokes seem involved, compare them separately rather than changing settings and technique together.
What if the discrepancy repeats?
Use the detailed missing-laps guide. If the timer itself stopped, use the recording-stopped checklist. If distance matches but the stroke label is wrong, use the stroke-identification guide.
