How it works
Pace = time ÷ distance × 100. One yard is exactly 0.9144 metres. Use moving time to exclude rests, or elapsed time to include them. Unit conversion does not predict a different pool’s race time.
Choose the value to calculate
Select pace, finish time or distance, then enter the other two values. Keep the distance unit consistent with the pace: a pace per 100 metres and a pace per 100 yards describe different speeds. Use the time controls for minutes and seconds rather than entering a decimal number of minutes.
Example: a steady 1,000 m swim
Swimming 1,000 metres in 20 minutes gives an average pace of 2:00 per 100 metres. At that same pace, 1,500 metres takes 30 minutes. To work in the other direction, choose distance and enter 30 minutes with a 2:00 pace; the result is 1,500 metres.
Read the average in context
Choose the time measurement that answers your question. Moving time describes swimming without rests; elapsed time includes breaks between repeats. An average does not show how much individual lengths varied. For repeated efforts with recovery, use the interval calculator. For a race target with changing pace, use the split calculator instead of assuming every segment will be identical.
