How it works

Ages between rows are linearly interpolated; distances are not extrapolated. These are general fitness comparisons, not official ranks or population estimates. The comparison does not distinguish stroke, pool length or starts. Use a continuous timed swim; do not compare rested intervals as one swim.

Use a comparable timed swim

Choose a listed distance in metres, your age and the comparison category, then enter the time from a continuous freestyle swim. Use the whole swim time, not the fastest length or the sum of selected intervals with their rests removed. The available age range is 10 to 90; unlisted distances are not estimated.

Example: tracking a 400 m effort

Suppose you complete 400 metres in 8:00. Enter 400 metres and that time alongside your age and category to see the reference thresholds. If a later attempt takes 7:50, use the same inputs apart from time. Record the pool length and start method separately so you can judge whether the two attempts are comparable.

Interpret the reference thresholds

A result describes where your entered time sits against the stored comparison table. For an age between two table rows, the tool interpolates their time thresholds. It does not establish an official competitive rank, a population percentile or readiness for a specific event. Pool course and start method are not separate inputs, so a change in conditions can affect the usefulness of comparisons over time.
